MSP Day 2021 took place on May 26 and was full of informative sessions featuring industry thought leaders and managed service providers (MSPs) from around the globe. Hosted by Barracuda MSP and joined by CompTIA as a strategic sponsor, the event also featured content from IT Business Growth Expert Richard Tubb and a number of other industry leaders who joined us this year.

This was the fourth annual celebration of MSP Day, but the second year for a global spin and virtual event aspect to it, as well. This year’s edition of the event gathered MSPs from over 25 different countries across six continents.

Informative MSP Day sessions

Several industry leaders hosted sessions during Global MSP Day, where they identified numerous growth opportunities for MSP businesses to profit from in the near future. Owners and executives from other service providers also shared the story of their business over the past 12 months, including the areas they strengthened their service offerings and manage to find success despite facing challenges.

The agenda kicked off with a welcome message from Barracuda’s CEO BJ Jenkins, who shared a brief overview of what to expect from Global MSP Day 2021 and thanked attendees for joining the virtual event. Following this introduction, Brian Babineau, SVP and GM of Barracuda MSP, and Richard Tubb offered a view on the current state of the industry and the future of managed services, respectively, where they identified opportunities and priorities that service providers should act on.

Next, MJ Shoer, SVP and Executive Director of CompTIA ISAO, provided for an overview of what an ISAO is, how the CompTIA ISAO is purpose built for MSPs to strengthen their security position with clients. The events on the main stage concluded with a panel discussion hosted by several industry experts, who highlighted numerous significant trends and what each means for service providers around the globe. Throughout the day, MSP attendees were able to network with each other through a networking-dedicated platform.

State of managed services report

This year’s edition of the annual Global MSP Day event also brought the 2021 edition of the “Evolving Landscape of the MSP Business Report.” The report offered further insights into some of the experiences you might have heard from fellow MSPs during the Global MSP Day 2021 event, along with other industry trends that service providers should be paying close attention to as the year progresses.

Some of the key highlights from the report included:

    • Of the service providers surveyed, 80 percent felt overall cybersecurity was a significant business opportunity, with 90 percent specifically pointing to securing remote workforces.
    • This emphasis on managed security was shared by SMBs, who named cybersecurity concerns and needs as the top motivator for adopting managed IT services. This likely influenced why the top five services named by MSPs are all security based: endpoint security, email security, network security, server security, and endpoint monitoring.
    • Managed services are accounting for more business growth, with 59 percent of MSP respondents expecting services to account for 50 percent or more of their revenues this year.

MSP Day 2021 contained the most downloadable content, discounts to take advantage of, free demos, and other specials ever offered during any MSP Day event to-date. Content from the event will be available for MSPs to enjoy until June 16, 2021, along with the 2021 “Evolving Landscape of the MSP Business Report.” We look forward to seeing MSPs at next year’s Global MSP Day event, and at several other points along the way!
