An email newsletter is a useful marketing tool that you can use to keep in contact with current and potential customers. However, your customers will never read the newsletter’s articles if they don’t open the email. That’s why the email newsletter’s opening lines need to catch their attention.

The 5 Elements of a Strong Opening

Email marketing research shows that a strong opening to your email newsletter should include the following five elements:

  1. A timely or engaging subject line. Emails with subject lines that are timely and talk about news or events tend to have the highest open rates. Subject lines that engage the reader are also effective.
  2. A personalized greeting. Personalized greetings increase email response rates.
  3. Useful information related to the email’s subject line. It’s essential that this information be educational and not a sales pitch. Opening lines that take a hard-sell approach often lead to the recipients deleting rather than reading the email.
  4. A call to action. The call to action should inspire the email recipients to reach out to you.
  5. Contact information. You should include your contact information so that your potential and current customers don’t have to hunt for your phone number.

After the opening, you’ll need to include the newsletter articles. However, you shouldn’t include the articles in their entirety. A better approach is to include their titles, teasers that will get people interested in them, and links to the full articles so that you can track who is reading them.

If you don’t have the time or staff to write the newsletter articles, Presstacular can help. It can provide you with informative and timely articles that will be relevant to your current and potential customers.
